 Sam Houston No Longer Winless

The Sam Houston Bearkats won their first game of the 2023 season, their first game as an FBS program, and their first  win as a member of CUSA. 

After starting the season 0-8, Sam Houston beat FCS Kennesaw State in Huntsville on Saturday 24-21 . The Bearkats take home their first victory since October 29 of 2022. 

Quarterback Keegan Shoemaker threw for 242 yards with three touchdowns and an interception with 30 completions on 38 attempts. 

Defensive back Da'Marcus Crosby had a team-leading ten tackles and the interception that set up Sam Houston's game-winning drive in the fourth quarter.

Kicker Colby Sessums hit the 35-yard field goal to win the game as time expired.

Sam Houston are in the middle of their first season as a member of the FBS after playing in the FCS since 1986. They won an FCS national championship in 2020 after two previous appearances in the FCS National Championship game. 

Sam Houston are also a new member of Conference USA this season, along with Liberty, New Mexico State, and Jacksonville State. 

Kennesaw State is also set to join Conference USA in 2024. They fall to 2-6 on the 2023 season.

With Sam Houston now in the win column, there are no winless teams remaining in FBS.

The Bearkats will look for their next victory on November 11 when they travel to Louisiana Tech. They still have yet to beat another FBS team this season. Sam Houston are 1-8 to start the year.
