This week, the wrestling world lost a true legend of the ring as Terry Funk sadly passed at the age of 79. Known affectionately as 'the Funker,' Funk's career would span decades and see the former NWA World's Heavyweight Champion compete with some of the all-time greats. Away from the spotlight, Funk would train dozens of future stars and inspire countless others to follow him into the squared circle.

With that in mind, we look at five Terry Funk matches every fan should seek out.

5: Terry Funk Vs. Bret Hart (Terry Funk's WrestleFest)

Billed as his retirement match (wink!) Funk stepped into the ring with Bret Hart, the WWF Champion at the time. With the talents of both men, the match was unsurprisingly excellent, and the fact that Vince McMahon allowed his top star to compete at the event showed the immense respect the Funk name carried. Bret would defeat Funk in Terry's retirement match, a retirement that would end 12 days later in FMW.

4: Terry Funk Vs. Tully Blanchard (Slamboree 1994)

After years of showing his very legitimate wrestling skills, Funk's Slamboree 1994 bout with Tully Blanchard would mark a change for the Funker. Instead of their standard technical wrestling, both men had a brawl at the event that'd raise eyebrows. A double-DQ finish does sour the match somewhat, but the match would give a glimpse of the wild side of Funk, who'd join ECW not long after this show.

3: Terry Funk at ECW Barely Legal 1997

This is somewhat greedy, as Funk would compete twice at ECW's first-ever pay-per-view. In a near-20-minute Three Way Dance, Funk would defeat The Sandman and Stevie Richards to earn a shot at the ECW World Championship. With no time to recover, Funk would dispatch of Raven to win the gold, giving a surprisingly feel-good moment to end the highly violent first pay-per-view of ECW.

2: Terry Funk, Tommy Dreamer, and Beulah McGillicutty Vs. Edge, Mick Foley, and Lita (ECW One Night Stand 2006)

Arguably the most high-profile match of Funk's career on a McMahon-sanctioned broadcast, this six-person tag team match arguably stole the show of the second-ever One Night Stand event. Funk's screams of "MY EYE!" can still send a chill down the spine of any viewer, as the Hardcore icon proved he still had 'it' years after his full-time career was long over.

1: Terry Funk Vs. Ric Flair (Clash of the Champions IX)

Few legends proved to be a greater adversary for Terry Funk than Ric Flair, who with his technical prowess, was a perfect foil for the brawling style of the Funker. In this brutal I-Quit match, Funk would be forced to say the dreaded two words after succumbing to Flair's Figure-Four Leg Lock. An instant classic that everyone should watch, the bout earned every one of its five stars from Dave Meltzer.
