Peter Rosenberg says you have to respect the petty.

Rosenberg and Michelle Beadle discussed CM Punk’s shocking return to WWE on the Over the Top with Beadle and Rosenberg podcast. The show’s format sees the pair cover 12 different topics, and Punk’s return to WWE came up.

“I’m a little shocked he’s back. I’m happy though. Because there’s never been — for my money —anybody better on the mic,” Beadle said. “I’m shocked it’s happening, I’m pleasantly surprised. But you must be thrilled.”

Beadle and Rosenberg also discussed how Punk’s return happened, and how people thought Rosenberg spoiled it on the Survivor Series Kickoff Show. Rosenberg says people were chanting for CM Punk (despite his return being a rumor). He mentioned the fans and said they were “some of the best in the world,” and some took it as a hint that Punk was coming back.

“You have to respect the petty”

Rosenberg said he honestly didn’t know at that point, and he was sure it wasn’t happening.

“Then like two seconds before it happens, someone I’m with makes a joke to someone else. ‘Oh, CM Punk’s coming back.’ And someone else in the know was like, ‘Mmm…’ Then I was like, ‘No way!’ And the music hit. I’ve never been more wrong,” Rosenberg admitted.

“I declared he was absolutely never coming back. I thought he was a serial bridge burner and a habitual line stepper. And he may be, but you know what? WWE — you have to respect the petty. They may have not been begging to get in business with CM Punk,” he quipped. “But they love sticking it to another wrestling company. And boy, does signing CM Punk do that.”

Beadle also opened up about how an incident during a WWE event ended her friendship with CM Punk. Read more about the incident here.
