Monday Night RAW Results: And Then There Was One (5/20/24)

Bron Breakker destroyed Kale Dixon, who probably wishes he had stayed on NXT Level Up. This was a referee stoppage.

Lyra Valkria stuns the world perhaps, defeating IYO SKY and punching her ticket to Jeddah.

Awesome Truth hold on to RAW tag gold, defeating Judgement Day with help from “Andre The Giant”, otherwise known as Braun Strowman.

Shayna Baszler and Zoey Stark won the fatal fourway and a future shot at the women’s tag titles.

GUNTHER takes out Jey Uso, sending him to Saudi Arabia in search of his crown.

Best Match of the night:

I have a 1a and a 1b. You won’t hear me argue one is better, both were really good, and that’s the Queen and King of the Ring semifinals.

Worst match of the night:

I wanted to like the women’s fatal four way, but it was too chaotic. I’d rather have seen WWE do a couple qualifier matches leading to a tag title match in Saudi Arabia or soon after.

Star of the Night

It is really hard not to love Lyra Valkyria. I have to think WWE loves her, and has big plans. Why? Because on the men’s side, you’ve got Ilja Dragunov, arguably a hotter and more well established Superstar. WWE did not hesitate to have him wrestle a superb match and lose. Not trying to put too much into a win or loss, but seeing a fresh face, especially on the women’s side, have a shot at the crown so fast? It’s awesome.

Spot of the Night:

Bron’s running around the ring spear was savage and quick. Why do I feel like that is going to hint at who he faces off with soon?

Jobber of the Night:

Poor Mr. Dixon. He got abused on RAW, but at least he got this award.

Honorable mention to Ricochet, who ate a backstage spear from Bron Breakker.

Upset of the Night:

Can I call GUNTHER over Jey an upset? Maybe not an upset, but how about a stunner? GUNTHER as King makes total sense, don’t get me wrong. I could see him doing with that what someone like Savage did way back when. But you had Uso versus Tama Tonga sitting there. But because that is the easy match to book, I have to think we get it, just some other way.

Holy S--- Moment of the Night:

Bron snapped, obliterating Mr. Dixon with the ref calling for a stoppage. Post-stoppage, he continued to go off. He told Adam Pearce that the RAW GM can’t control the Son of Steiner, and that it was his fault because Bron wasn’t in King of the Ring.

Did not expect that outcome for the RAW side of the King of the Ring bracket, for sure.

Botch of the night:

I have nothing

LOL Moment of the night:

R-Truth saying he has Andre The Giant watching their backs tonight, and then Miz telling him that Andre is long deceased. The Miz looks to the sky asking for Andre’s spiritual help, at which point Truth was like “and they call me crazy”.

Noteworthy Moment:

Gable talked down to his stablemates. Sami Zayn stood up for them. Both Akira Tozawa and Maxxine Dupri refused to act the heel. Otis resisted, but finally caved. The Otis redemption arc should be fun.

Sonya Deville has returned to RAW. Looked like she wanted to set something up with Zoey and Shayna, but Baszler surprisingly wanted nothing to do with it.

Remember that chatter about Gable and The Creed Brothers?

Overall lowlights:

I have to agree with Bron Breakker, not seeing him in the KOTR tournament was a miss, but they are making things interesting.

Overall highlights:

GUNTHER as a finalist was predictable, and heading into it, I expected he’d be one option to wear the crown. But if you told me Lyra Valkyria would be the other RAW Superstar landing in the finals? I’d have been skeptical. Now, I am happy. Both semifinals were good. On top of that, lots of other good things going on, for the most part.

After the final bell:

Strong go-home show, and now every Superstar that needs to be in the Middle East gets to make tracks to Saudi Arabia. Saturday should be a fun one.
