It was so bad at the end of his AEW run, CM Punk cursed out Tony Khan, called him a clown and wanted to quit before Collision debuted.

CM Punk came to AEW with high hopes. Within about two years, he was gone from the promotion. He was involved in several backstage issues, which resulted in two suspensions. Not long after the second suspension, Khan released him because he feared for the safety of himself and everyone around. Now, Punk is telling his side of the story on The MMA Hour with Ariel Helwani.

He revealed wanting out of AEW sometime during his first suspension after the incident at the media scrum and backstage melee. Eventually, Khan convinced him to stick around and be part of Collision. Punk could not comment further because of legal stuff. At All In, Punk got into it with Jack Perry. Punk claims he tried to defuse the situation, but he would be leaving AEW after his match with Samoa Joe. On his way out of AEW, Punk told Khan AEW is a “f—ing joke, you’re a clown.”

Life After AEW

For the time he was there, Punk did draw lots of attention and money to AEW. Clearly, he is no longer friendly with Khan. It will be intersting to see if Punk’s stint will go down as a moment that elevated AEW or or hurt them overall. We are seeing smaller crowds for AEW, while WWE is selling out left and right.

Only months later and Punk returned to WWE at the conclusion of Survivor Series. It was an epic surprise as only a few people knew. He set his eyes on Seth Rollins and WrestleMania 40. The booking was Punk loses at the Royal Rumble and won his title shot at the Elimination Chamber. Instead, Punk was injured during the Royal Rumble and will be out until summer. Although, he has been on TV in recent weeks and will be at the show this weekend. So, after hearing how CM Punk cursed out Tony Khan, and then called him a clown after wanting to already quit before AEW Collision debuted, do you believe his side?
