Former WWE star Brian Kendrick was brought back as a producer for Saturday's  Backlash PLE.

Per his request, Kendrick had been released by WWE in February 2022 and was supposed to go to AEW the day after, but that was nixed once fans posted old clips of him giving conspiracy theories related to the Holocaust and more.

Kendrick did return to WWE for a one-off after this last November to work as a producer at Survivor Series alongside Jason Jordan for the SmackDown Women’s Title match between Ronda Rousey and Shotzi. Rousey had asked for Kendrick to be used as a Producer as a one-off.

Kendrick was the producer alongside Jamie Noble for the San Juan Street Fight between Bad Bunny and Damian Priest at Backlash.

While appearing on the Hitting The Turnbuckle podcast, Kendrick was asked about the reports of him being at Backlash. Kendrick started off by talking about his history with Rousey and helping her train for wrestling before making her WWE in-ring debut. His history with Bunny goes back to 2021, when he served as the producer for Bunny’s tag team match with Priest at WrestleMania 37.

Would you like to talk about the Ronda Rousey training, or would you like to talk about the Backlash stuff? The Ronda training came about because of Roderick Strong's wife, [she] and Ronda go way back. Ronda was thinking about getting into pro wrestling, and Roddy said, ‘Well, Spanky lives out in LA,’ and so I got a text from Ronda Rousey. She reached out to me, and we started training then she had her agents started talking with the WWE, and that was that. Ronda Rousey came to me for training, and then this Backlash stuff. It was for the Bad Bunny and Damian Priest match. The company brought me in, but it was because a few years back, when they had their tag match, I worked with them. I think because of the comfort level we had built with Bunny and they requested me to come back for that too. Went to Puerto Rico,” Kendrick stated.

Kendrick praised Bunny for putting a lot of training in for his matches, and he thought the street fight was awesome.
