AEW president Tony Khan doesn't rule out crossover event with WWE

AEW is a disruptor brand; its place in the market is built to provide an alternative to WWE and its programming.

AEW president Tony Khan has constructed a stellar roster and established its brand as the second-biggest promotion in the world.

In recent years, AEW has produced crossover events with some of the other well-known wrestling companies. There was Ring of Honor (which Khan later purchased), New Japan Pro Wrestling and the now annual Forbidden Door pay-per-view, and recently CMLL during episodes of Dynamite and Collision.

Yet, despite being open to working with other companies, a potential crossover with WWE has always seemed out of reach. Khan has been a vocal critic regarding his biggest competition. Nevertheless, during a recent interview with Liam Crowley of Comicbook.com, he refused to close the door on a potential crossover event.

"It's an interesting thought," Khan said. "It would depend on the circumstance."

Any event featuring WWE and AEW talent would undoubtedly enter the record books. The two companies have the most popular wrestlers in the world on their rosters, and fans would be keen to see how each company's stars fare against each other.

While a potential crossover event is likely a dream, we are seeing more and more wrestlers cross the divide. Last year, Adam Copeland joined AEW, with Jade Cargill heading in the opposite direction. Jon Moxley and Bryan Danielson are former WWE talents. CM Punk returned to WWE after an ill-fated spell with Khan's promotion.

The two companies may never go toe-to-toe in a wrestling ring. Still, Khan didn't rule out the possibility, which will be enough to get fans excited that it may happen someday.
