AEW In Talks With Former WWE Superstar Shelton Benjamin
Source: WWE

There is a report, stating former WWE superstar Shelton Benjamin has been speaking with AEW about possibly joining them. When WWE released a number of wrestlers in September, many fans wondered in any of them would be picked up by All Elite Wrestling. For one, it looks like there have been talks, at a minimum.

Benjamin to AEW? Benjamin was among the batch of WWE wrestlers released last fall.

According to Fightful Select, AEW has recently been in conversation with former WWE Superstar Shelton Benjamin. “The wrestling veteran was released by WWE back in September 2023, and while the two didn’t have contact at that point, they have recently discussed the possibility of working together in some capacity,” Fightful noted.

The story continued: “It is unknown whether he will be signing an official contract or working a full-time deal at this point, but as far back as one month ago, conversations had been happening.”

Those in AEW were advocating for Benjamin when rumors surfaced about his WWE contract ending. However, those rumors turned out to be false. Subsequently, he was released by the company. Benjamin also has a history working for Ring Of Honor, which is something that could be tied into as he worked for the company from 2010 to 2013, winning the ROH World Tag Team titles alongside Charlie Haas.

Benjamin, in his early training, was part of the legendary Ohio Valley Wrestling class of 2002. It also included John Cena, Dave Bautista, Brock Lesnar and Randy Orton. Legend has it, that among those major stars, most of them and their trainers considered Benjamin the best in-ring wrestler of the bunch.

At 48-years-old, Shelton Benjamin still wrestles and looks like he did two decades ago. With AEW taking great pride in their match work, it would no doubt be fun for fans to see him in a new company and environment. At the same time, their roster is packed with too many names.

Therefore, AEW might want to use Benjamin in other ways. He would make for a great trainer. As for a producer, I am not sold on that idea. So, should AEW sign former WWE superstar Shelton Benjamin? Plus, in what role would he be best assigned?
