To commemorate her decorated collegiate career, Phoenix Mercury star Brittney Griner will forever be remembered at her alma mater, Baylor.

Before they played Texas A&M today, the Bears’ women’s basketball team raised a banner with her name and No. 42 up into the rafters at Foster Pavilion in Waco, Texas.

On Baylor from 2009-13, Griner collected 3,283 points and 1,305 rebounds in college.

Because of her dominant play on the court, Griner would be a two-time National Player of the Year, four-time All-Big 12 First Team and All-Defensive Team member.

In her first year as a Bear, she became the Freshman of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year. Griner was also the Player and Defensive Player of the Year winner in 2011, 2012 and 2013.

Even as she continues her storied WNBA career with the Mercury, Griner still holds Big 12 records in points scored (3,283), field goals made (1,247), free throws scored (787), free throws attempted (1,054) and blocks (748).

Baylor were 135-15 while Griner was in Waco, led the Bears to 40-0 and the 2012 National Championship, their second of three titles in program history.

Now, her banner will float during every Bears game moving forward into the foreseeable future.
