AC Milan will be desperate to reach the semi-finals of the Europa League given it is the last chance to win a trophy this season, but there are financial reasons to seek success as well.

As highlighted by Milan News, the Europa League brings a lot less in the way of cash than the Champions League, but it is still not to be sniffed at.

A tidy amount has already been earned by Milan thanks to their run to this point of the Europa League and their participation in the Champions League earlier in the season. The ticket money and market pool figures cannot be added yet, but Milan have earned €46.42 million from European competition so far this season.

A massive €42.92 of that is from the Champions League group stage, but there is more to earn from overturning the 1-0 deficit against Roma at the Stadio Olimpico on Thursday night, which could be crucial to Piolis future.

Qualifying for the semi-finals would bring an immediate €2.8m payment, whilst reaching the final brings another payment of €4.6m. There is then €4m on offer for winning the tournament, and there is €3.5m on the table for taking part in the UEFA Super Cup. Winning the Super Cup brings an extra €1m.
