Udinese sack Cioffi as Cannavaro arrives to take over

Udinese have officially dismissed head coach Gabriele Cioffi and brought in World Cup winning defender Fabio Cannavaro as a replacement.

The Friulian side have been in disastrous form this season and their early decision to sack Andrea Sottil back in September did not pay off, with his replacement Cioffi failing to find a rhythm either, managing just four wins and 10 draws across his 23 league matches in charge.

Udinese’s latest outing was a possibly decisive 1-0 loss to fellow relegation candidates Hellas Verona, a result that leaves the Bianconeri 17^th in the Serie A table, tied on points with 18^th place Frosinone, leaving them in a tough spot in the battle to avoid the drop.

As announced today, Udinese have now officially decided to dismiss Cioffi after 24 matches in charge, making a change to try and avoid relegation with just weeks left to go.

Sky Sports Italia confirmed the imminent arrival of Cannavaro, who is ready to return to the dugout after more than a year on the sidelines. The 2006 World Cup winner was filmed arriving at the club’s headquarters on Monday morning.
