Sardar Azmoun recently made his Roma debut after joining on loan from Bayer Leverkusen last summer. His agent Andrea Pellegatti dished on his move and mindset to Sportitalia.

“His goal is to do well to stay put since the Giallorossi have an option to buy. He fit right in. He always dreamed of being coached by José Mourinho. It’s an important objective for him. It’s now up to him to bounce back after a tough reason. Surely, the club gave everything he needed to succeed.”

“Roma often play with 3-5-2, and Azmoun is versatile and can star either as a no.9 or play next to Romelu Lukaku a few meters back. He can feature along with Paulo Dybala, Andrea Belotti, Tammy Abraham, or Stephan El Shaarawy too.”

Pellegatti expounded on the influence of Mourinho.

“The Giallorossi are a great side, and he always loved Italy. He chose to come here because of the Special One. A few foreign outfits, especially English ones, had inquired. He was a bargain considering his Champions League experience.”

“The arrival of Lukaku was positive for him too because it increased the technical level. They need to compete on three fronts and, since they use a two-man attack, they went in this direction. He’s a high-caliber forward who raises the bar.”

Azmoun wasn’t included by Roma in the first UEFA list.

“I would never dare to comment on the choices of the team.”
