Manchester City’s wonderboy is all grown up as he leads City to another crucial three points
Yukihito Taguchi-USA TODAY Sports

Manchester City’s wonderboy Phil Foden has shown that he is all grown up as a player as he led City to a crucial 4-nil win over Brighton this evening. The England international has taken his game to another level this season, and that growth was on full display at the Amex Stadium.

In the early stages of City’s win over Brighton Roberto De Zerbi’s side, it did appear that they could be a tough nut to crack for Manchester City. Across the first 15 minutes, the Seagulls looked like the tactics employed by De Zerbi had befuddled the champions. But after Kevin De Bruyne opened the scoring in the 17th minute, the champions went up a gear, and Brighton couldn’t live with Pep Guardiola’s side.

After De Bruyne’s goal, it was Phil Foden who ended the game as a contest. It was his driving run that earned City a free kick in the 26th minute. Foden tucked away the resulting free kick with the aid of a deflection to make it 2-nil. He was on hand to make it 3-nil 8 minutes later. Some sublime pressing from the champions in the 34th minute saw the ball land at Phil Foden’s feet. He expertly dispatched the rebound to end the game as a contest. The goals from Foden speak volumes of the new found maturity in his game.

In season’s past, it was often Ilkay Gundogan who would chime in with valuable goals for Manchester City. This season, it appears that it could be Phil Foden who could step up in a similar manner to their former captain. Foden has scored goals at crucial times this season, and he was at it again tonight. So far this season, he has scored 24 goals and added 10 assists in all competitions, with the majority of his contributions being crucial in Manchester City victories across this season.

Manchester City’s wonderboy has now grown up. His growth and maturity as a player may prove to be pivotal to the champions chase for a fourth consecutive Premier League title this season. Foden is now looming as one of the most crucial factors in this season’s title race given how imposing his form has been across this season.
