Simone Inzaghi is set to stay at Inter Milan beyond this summer despite reported interest from Liverpool. The Reds will have to write off another in-demand manager from their list of candidates to replace Jurgen Klopp.

Liverpool-Linked Manager Makes Final Decision on Summer Switch

Reclaiming Serie A in Style

Following Antonio Conte’s departure in 2021, Inter quickly finalized the signing of Inzaghi, who joined the club after spending more than a decade at Lazio.

Having worked as Lazio’s head coach for four years, Inzaghi was ready to build on his reputation as one of Serie A’s top tacticians. In his first two campaigns in charge of the Nerezzurri, Inzaghi won two Coppa Italia titles and reached the Champions League final. This season, Inter are set to reclaim the Scudetto, sitting 14 points above AC Milan with six matchdays to go.

Liverpool have emerged as one of Inzaghi’s main suitors as they look to find a replacement for Jurgen Klopp. However, it seems that Inter are not willing to let the 48-year-old leave the club ahead of the next season.

Inter President Offers Update on Liverpool-Inzaghi Links

Speaking to Sky Sports, club president Steven Zhang said of the manager’s potential move away from San Siro (via Fabrizio Romano): “There’s no doubt at all, we will continue together.

“He’s an excellent coach. Inzaghi will stay as a key part of our project.”

Zhang’s words echoed Inzaghi’s recent comments on his future. When asked about a possible move to the Premier League in early March, the Inter manager said (via Sempre Inter): “I’m happy here. I’m very happy with everyone here.”

Inzaghi, who “outplayed Pep Guardiola” in last year’s Champions League final, appears to have the full support of the club’s hierarchy.

He added: “Even if the club President [Steven Zhang] is not here at the moment, I can always feel him behind me.”

Liverpool’s Manager Short-List

Xabi Alonso was the first manager to be heavily linked with a move to Anfield ahead of Klopp’s exit. However, the Bayer Leverkusen boss announced his decision to stay at his current club last month.

Since then, Sporting Lisbon manager Ruben Amorim has emerged as the front-runner to secure the vacant managerial role at Liverpool. The Portuguese manager is reportedly available for around £8.5 million this summer.

The Reds have also been linked with a move for Brighton’s Roberto De Zerbi. However, according to the Athletic, the Seagulls are “increasingly” optimistic that the Italian manager will stay at the club for at least another season.
