Inter Milan’s preparations for their upcoming derby clash with AC Milan are already starting to reach a fever pitch.

This according to today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews.

The derby is always one of the matches that Inter and Milan anticipate most each season.

Clashes between the Nerazzurri and the Rossoneri have a sense of occasions and high stakes regardless of what is on the line in terms of trophies or the league table.

This time around, however, there is also an additional incentive – for each team.

Inter can mathematically clinch the Serie A title with a victory over their city rivals next Monday.

And Milan, on the other hand, can prevent that from happening.

It is, to put it mildly, not likely that the Rossoneri will catch Inter in the table before the end of the season. Still, there will be no lack of motivation to at least delay their celebrations.

Moreover, Milan still have consolidating their spot in second in the table to think about.

Inter Preparations For Derby Vs AC Milan Already Reaching Fever Pitch

The Gazzetta report that a big focus of Inter’s preparations for the derby in the coming training sessions will be on the defensive phase.

The Nerazzurri’s most recent match against Cagliari perhaps showed why.

In attack, Inter have reason to be confident that they will find a way to score. They have done so in each of their last 32 matches in Serie A.

But at the other end, there were one or two worrying signs against Cagliari.

The Rossoblu not only scored twice – there were a couple other very dangerous situations that didn’t result in goals.

The root of these was the normally tight Inter defense coming unglued.

Inter will be very keen to regain their defensive solidity for the derby.

And there will be no lack of motivation to do so.

The Gazzetta highlight the Serie A title celebrations by Milan in 2022. That year, the Rossoneri pipped Inter to the title by just two points on the final day of the season.

And in the celebrations, there were some barbs aimed at Inter – and in particular midfielder Hakan Calhanoglu, who had joined the Nerazzurri in the summer.

Inter have gotten some measure of revenge with a sequence of derby wins that is at five matches and counting.

But a sixth in a row to clinch the title would be particularly gratifying for the Nerazzurri.
