Inter Milan Legend Weighs In On Summer Transfer Plans: ‘Most Important Thing Is Keeping The Squad Together’

Beppe Bergomi feels that the most important thing for Inter Milan this summer will be to keep the existing squad together.

The legendary former Nerazzurri captain gave his thoughts on the club’s plans for the summer transfer window speaking to Milan-based newspaper Il GIorno, via FCInterNews.

Inter Sporting Director Piero Ausilio has confirmed that Inter plan to make a few signings this summer – but that the club will not have nearly as busy a transfer window as last time around.

Last summer, Inter signed twelve players in total. These were to replace the same number of players who had left the club.

This time around, the priority looks to be more a matter of keeping the existing squad relatively intact.

However, that doesn’t mean that Inter aren’t going to try and build from a position of strength.

Striker Mehdi Taremi and midfielder Piotr Zielinski are arriving on free transfers.

And they won’t be the only signings by any means.

However, it looks unlikely that the Nerazzurri will have a summer of major upheaval like last time around. Last summer there were a dozen players in and out of Inter.

Rather, the aim is likely to be keeping the Serie A title-winning project going, and strengthening in a targeted manner.

Bergomi: Most Important Thing Is Inter Keep Squad Together

Bergomi commented that “Zielinski and Taremi are already coming in.”

“Then, if they can keep hold of all their best players, that would already be the most important thing.”

“Beyond that, they have to identify a younger profile.” Bergomi anticipated.

Of the possibility of young attacking midfielder Valentin Carboni becoming a part of the first-team squad, Bergomi remarked that “It’s better to get a striker who can beat a defender one-on-one.”

“The kind of quality that they currently lack in the squad.”

“Among the players to keep, certainly, would be Lautaro,” Bergomi continued. “If he extends his contract, he can expect to stay for many more years.”

“I see a serious attitude in him,” Bergomi said of Inter’s current captain. “A sense of attachment to the shirt.”

“In previous seasons when he’s gone a while without scoring he’s looked a bit gloomy,” he continued.
