How much prize money will Sheffield United receive from the Premier League?

While it looks more and more likely that Sheffield United will suffer relegation back to the Championship, they still have something to play for in these remaining six games.

Of course, the players and manager feel as though they can still survive, but to overcome a ten point gap at this stage of the season is an extremely difficult task.

For many supporters, it’s now about trying to salvage some pride and hopefully not finish rock bottom.

The next fixture for Sheffield United is a home clash against 19th placed Burnley. A win over the Clarets would move them a point behind them, with the Blades still possessing a game in hand (against Manchester United).

And while the Blades may be suffering on the pitch, it’s easy for people to forget that the club will pocket more prize money if they were to avoid finishing rock bottom.

Sheffield United: Premier League prize money

The latest data from the Premier League’s annual report, via Birmingham World, reveals that each club is set to pocket a minimum of £91.7 million from the ‘equal share’ distribution stemming from both domestic and international broadcast contracts.

Furthermore, clubs will also benefit from ‘merit payments’ based on their final standings in the league table, as well as ‘facility fees’ for extra television appearances in the UK.

As things stand, United are set to receive £112.6 million for finishing in dead last. Burnley, in 19th, will receive £115.7 million. And whoever finishes in the final relegation spot will be set for a payout of £118.8 million. Whichever team manages to escape the drop, they’ll be in line to pocket £121.9 million.
