What the Florida Panthers could do at the NHL Trade Deadline
Aleksander Barkov (? Jasen Vinlove-USA TODAY Sports)

Tyler Yaremchuk was joined by Frank Seravalli to discuss Aleksander Barkov’s wonderful assist last night and what the Florida Panthers could do in the lead up to the trade deadline on the latest episode of Daily Faceoff Live.

Tyler Yaremchuk: Last night we got the assist of the year from Aleksander Barkov, coming in on the New York Rangers and batting the puck around and eventually setting things up for a goal, an absolute beauty. Frank, one word to describe this pass from Aleksander Barkov.

Frank Seravalli: Sublime. I would say the reverse angle is so beautiful, just the patience under pressure of everything happening at full speed. It’s not just awareness, it’s awareness of where K’Andre Miller is and where Sam Reinhart is. Maybe one of the easiest goals Reinhart will ever score. There’s so much about it that just screams Sasha, that’s the other word I was thinking of.

Tyler Yaremchuk: I’ll go with a hyphenated word because I’m the host I can do whatever I want. Multi-sport. Aleksander Barkov is a big tennis player, doesn’t it kind of look like he’s batting a little tennis ball up and down on his stick. It’s a beautiful goal from Barkov. Since we’re on the topic of the Panthers, any update on their plans and what they could get up to over the next few days?

Frank Seravalli: So I framed it on the DFO Rundown yesterday that it’s like shopping at Gucci with a Walmart wallet, it’s basically where they’re at. They’re really interested to be aggressive to improve this team, they’ve got limited assets, I think they could potentially be willing to part with one or two of the UFAs on the roster if the right deal materialized.

No, I’m not talking about Reinhart but they’re in an intriguing spot where to me they’re the team to beat in the East and they could certainly do some damage without making any major moves but I think they want to try and do everything they can between now and then to really give themselves every opportunity to do so.
