Watch: Flyers’ Hathaway Hammers Rangers’ Goodrow In Early Fight
Timothy T. Ludwig-USA TODAY Sports

The Philadelphia Flyers quickly fell down 2-0 in their Friday afternoon matinee game against the New York Rangers. Mika Zibanejad and Chris Kreider were the two transgressors.

Nic Deslauriers tried to get Rangers captain Jacob Trouba to oblige to a fight, and after absorbing a check from Trouba, Garnet Hathaway returned to his feet and went toe-to-toe with Barclay Goodrow instead.

It was admirable of Goodrow to step in for his captain, but he probably won’t want to take on any Philadelphia Flyers players again. Hathaway might top that list.

In the clip above, most of the fighting was limited to a wrestling match along the boards. However, Hathaway scored a couple of hearty punches, including a few after he knocked Goodrow’s bucket off.

Hathaway’s fight was the Philadelphia Flyers’ eighth as a team this season. Deslauriers has four, Hathaway has two, and Nick Seeler also has two. The Flyers definitely don’t take well to being pushed around, but especially by a rival team on their home ice.

The Flyers ‘ most recent fight was on Sunday, when Deslauriers dropped the mitts with the Columbus Blue Jackets’ Mathieu Olivier. It’s safe to say No. 44 won his tilt, too.
