Vancouver Canucks’ J.T. Miller is in play for a trade, but with a caveat

On today’s episode of Daily Faceoff Live, insider Frank Seravalli discussed what could happen next with Vancouver Canucks forward J.T. Miller.

Miller’s name has been raised in trade rumors in recent days as the Canucks look to cash in on assets in a non-playoff year. He is in the final year of a deal with a $5.25 million cap hit but is set to begin a seven-year deal worth $8 million after turning 30.

Miller has taken a step back with the Canucks this season after recording a career-high 32 goals and 99 points last year. He’s still on pace for around 75 this year, but as the Canucks look towards the future, Miller could be a key asset moved ahead of the deadline.

Seravalli: J.T. Miller with the Vancouver Canucks… his name has been out there the last few days. He is also, according to the team, week-to-week with an injury. But I did see a report yesterday from his agent that said he’s only expected to miss about a week.

So the question is, is J.T. Miller in play? The answer is yes, but with a caveat. And that is that the Vancouver Canucks have been active in talks in the last week. They’re trying to find an NHL-ready younger center that could potentially take the place of Miller in their lineup. And if they can do that, then it would make it a lot easier to trade J.T. Miller.

There are a lot of things that would have to happen in order for that to happen. So, I would say that it is rather unlikely that J.T. Miller ends up being on the move before Friday at 3:00 p.m. If he’s going to go at all before his no-trade clause kicks in on July 1, I’d expect it to be in the summer.
