There has never been a better time for the Flyers to capitalize on Konecny’s trade value
Eric Hartline-USA TODAY Sports

It’s been a strange season for the Philadelphia Flyers. Coming off a 2022-23 campaign where the club finished 31-38-13, seventh in the Metropolitan Division and ending up with the No. 7 overall draft pick in the 2023 NHL Entry Draft, many predicted much of the same in 2023-24.

The team surprised everyone, however, stringing together plenty of wins and putting themselves in a playoff position as they reached the midway mark of the season. But after losing five straight before the All-Star break, the Flyers now believe they may be sellers instead of buyers.

Enter Travis Konecny: the team’s first-round pick in 2015 who is on pace for the best statistical season of his career with 22 goals and 20 assists for 42 points in 50 games. Now 26 years old and in the second-last year of a six-year contract he signed in 2019, some feel like there’s never been a better time to trade the native of London, Ont.

On Tuesday’s episode of Daily Faceoff LIVE, Frank Seravalli and Tyler Yaremchuk discuss whether the Flyers are sellers and what they can get for Konecny.

Tyler Yaremchuk: Let’s start with the Flyers. They’re 25-19-6 but we have them as the No. 1 seller. Is the direction things are trending in Philly?

Frank Seravalli: Yes and John Tortorella gave fans the warning. They have to remain true to themselves that a few wins can’t confuse them with being an authentic threat from the playoffs.

I think the big question is Konecny. You can make the argument that as well as he’s played, his value will never be higher than it is right now. The big thing is: how do you cut the legs off a team that’s played like they’ve earned a chance to compete for a playoff spot?
