Scott will retire as Chairman; Flyers Sign Andrae to ELC

Earlier today, the Philadelphia Flyers made it official in a press release. Dave Scott will retire as the Chairman and CEO of Comcast Spectacor.

It’s the latest announcement in a seismic shift of direction atop the Flyers’ rebuild, but one required.

Dan Hilferty will take over as the Chairman of Comcast Spectacor on April 17th, 2023. He already accepted the CEO of Comcast Spectacor role in February. Along with becoming the Chairman of Comcast Spectacor, on July 1st, he’ll become the Flyers’ Governor.

Hilferty identified himself as a tenacious Flyers fan upon becoming the CEO of Comcast Spectacor. The hope is that Hilferty is more aware of hockey in Philadelphia than Scott. Showing a face will go a long way. Hilferty is new, and impressions and effort mean a lot. Working tirelessly to flip the current team image in the NHL means carefully crafting a rebuild plan and model to turn this franchise back into a contender.

By stating he is a ‘tenacious’ fan, Hilferty implies he’ll have more of a hands-on approach to be the antithesis of Scott in the same role. You have to take his word for it. When he proves his awareness with hockey operation hires, such as the next President, no one knows if his fandom translates to success. Daniel Briere is the interim General Manager and might maintain the role past 2022-2023. The President and General Manager titles separated upon the firing of Chuck Fletcher.

Andrae Signs ELC

Recently, Emil Andrae joined the Lehigh Valley Phantoms on an ATO. In two games, he tallied two assists. He signed a three-year entry-level contract with the Philadelphia Flyers effective 2023-2024.

He was electric on Team Sweden during his World Juniors performance. He totaled eight points (4G, 4A) with 25 shots on goal and a +5 rating. Andrae scored the most goals of all defensemen during the World Juniors en route to a bronze medal. He was one of four Flyers prospects at that World Juniors tournament, competing against Tyson Foerster, Elliot Desnoyers, and Brian Zanetti.

One of the first decisions by Briere was to provide Andrae the ATO to join the Phantoms.

In the 2020 NHL Entry Draft, Andrae was a second-round pick. Fletcher selected him a round after Foerster.
