Ryan Poehling scored the Philadelphia Flyers’ first goal of the preseason in a 2-1 loss to the New York Islanders on Wednesday night.
The Poehling goal is the Flyers’ only score through two preseason games.
Poehling scored at 17:38 of the third period with assists from Noah Cates and Scott Laughton. The Flyers had pulled the goaltender to get an extra skater on the ice and capitalized.

Felix Sandstrom played the first period and allowed one goal on six shots. Sam Ersson played the final two periods and made 12 saves on 13 shots.
The Islanders’ first goal was scored by Julien Gauthier on the power play. New York was 1-for-4 on the power play. The Flyers were 0-for-3 on the power play.
The Flyers played a stronger game than they did in Monday’s preseason opener, a 6-0 loss at New Jersey. Philadelphia’s next preseason game is Friday at Boston.
