Report: Canucks D Carson Soucy could miss 3-4 weeks with hand injury
? Simon Fearn-USA TODAY Sports

The Vancouver Canucks could be without Carson Soucy for a little while.

According to Rick Dhaliwal of Donnie and Dhali — The Team, the towering defenceman could be out 3-4 weeks with an apparent hand injury.

Soucy remained on the bench but did not see a single shift during the third period of the Canucks’ Saturday night victory over the Toronto Maple Leafs.

It’s been an injury-riddled first season as a Canuck for Soucy, who signed for three years in Vancouver as a free agent this past offseason. Soucy missed some preseason games and the Canucks’ first two games of the season against the Edmonton Oilers before returning for the Canucks’ third game of the season against the Philadelphia Flyers on October 17th.

Soucy appeared in just 13 games before going down with another injury, this time as the result of inadvertanyl blocking a shot with the back of his leg in the Canucks’ 5-2 win over the Montreal Canadiens on November 12th. That injury kept Soucy sidelined for a while, as he only made his return earlier this month on January 6th.

And after appearing in eight games this month to bring his season total to 21, Soucy appears headed back for the injured reserve. Soucy, 29, has tallied two goals and four assists through his first 21 games as a Canuck. On the bright side, with the All-Star break coming up, the Canucks’ schedule gets very light, giving Soucy ample time to recover without missing as many games as he normally would have. After their home tilt against the Columbus Blue Jackets on Saturday, the Canucks don’t play again until February 6th.

A native of Viking, Alberta, Soucy has 23 goals and 51 assists to his name through 271 career NHL games.

The Canucks are slated to hold a full morning skate today at 10:30 ahead of their matchup with the Chicago Blackhawks, so we should have a more definitive update on Soucy’s status — along with any potential call ups from Abbotsford — in today’s edition of Scenes from Morning Skate.
