Red Wings’ David Perron will have in-person hearing for cross-checking Senators’ Artem Zub

Since the league offered an in-person hearing, this opens the door for a suspension of six games or more.

The incident occurred in the latter half of the first period of the Red Wings’ 5-1 loss to the Senators at Little Caesars Arena in Detroit on Saturday night. During a scramble in front of the Senators’ net, Red Wings’ Dylan Larkin appeared to take a shot in the back of the head from the Sens’ Mathieu Joseph and a corresponding shot from Parker Kelly, causing the Detroit captain to fall to the ice.

The stretcher was brought onto the ice, but Larkin managed to get to his feet, and was helped off the ice.

After seeing his teammate lay motionless on the ice, Perron looked for retribution against one of the Senators. Despite not knowing who committed the act, Perron went after Zub and crosschecked the defenseman in the head.

Perron received a five-minute match penalty for intent to injure and was ejected from the game.

Perron has seven goals and six assists for 13 points in 26 games this season. The 35-year-old has played 1081 career games through 17 NHL seasons, scoring 300 goals and 434 assists for 734 points, playing with the Red Wings, the St. Louis Blues, the Edmonton Oilers, the Pittsburgh Penguins, the Anaheim Ducks and the Vegas Golden Knights.
