Pittsburgh Penguins announce new dates to distribute supposed stolen bobbleheads
? Charles LeClaire-USA TODAY Sports

The Pittsburgh Penguins have officially found the supposedly stolen Jaromir Jagr bobbleheads and announce new dates for their distribution. The bobbleheads were originally reported stolen by the Penguins on March 14 to the disappointment of Pens fans who bought tickets for that night’s game versus the San Jose Sharks. The team planned to distribute the bobbleheads prior to the Sharks game but had to reschedule due to the theft of the entire shipment.

The team will instead be distributing the bobbleheads prior to the April 6 game against the Tampa Bay Lightning. Fans who have a bobblehead voucher from the March 14th game will be able to redeem it on April 6-7.

Apparently a “special cargo recovery team” negotiated the safe release of the mini Jagr’s and recovered them from a secure warehouse in Ontario, California. Rumours have abounded as to whether there even was a mass bobblehead theft in the first place or if this is all one big PR stunt.

If this is indeed a PR stunt it would have to rank among the greatest in NHL history as hockey media and fans have been discussing this peculiar event since mid-March. The Penguins have been having a rough year and are searching for anything to give them good PR. Whether this was or wasn’t a PR stunt is irrelevant, the Penguins did a great job of raising Jaromir Jagr’s number 68 to the rafters on February 18 and by all accounts it was a wonderful event.

The Penguins are currently nine points out of the final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference with a record of 30-30-10. They only have 12 games remaining in the season, so for them to have any chance of making the playoffs, they’d basically need to win all 12 games; even then, they wouldn’t be guaranteed a playoff spot.

This is the second straight season the Penguins will be missing the playoffs and it raises questions about the team’s future and more specifically, the future of Sidney Crosby.
