Mistakes, mistakes, mistakes!

Mistakes have become a common theme far too often for the Ontario Reign lately. Unfortunately for the Reign, team mistakes reared their ugly head again and cost them two points in last night’s game. The first goal by Henderson came off a turnover from Tobias Bjornfot that ended up right in front of the Reign net. The third goal by Henderson came when Nate Thompson and Jacob Moverare couldn’t clear the puck out of the zone, and the fourth goal came off a mistake by TJ Tynan where he turned the puck over and elected to go for the puck carrier instead of getting back on defense, which led to a breakaway goal for the Silver Knights.

Whether it’s rookies, second or third-year players, or veteran players, there’s been too many mistakes that have cost the Reign games lately. When the Reign won seven of their first eight games to start the year, if you were to say they would go on losing streaks of five, six, and ten games, I don’t think anybody would’ve believed it. Well, it happened and the inconsistency of this game has pretty much summed up their season.

Hello old friend

For two years Sheldon Rempal called Ontario home. In 115 games Rempal recorded 61 points (19-42) for the Reign after signing as an unrestricted free agent right out of college with the team. After the 2019-2020 season finished, the club didn’t tender him a contract. I don’t know if he has every game against the Reign circled on his calendar but he has some of his best games against the organization that let him walk in free agency.

In seven games against the Reign this year, Rempal has recorded nine points along with three multi-point games. He earned the first star of the game recording a goal and an assist. He just loves playing against the Ontario Reign.

Madden and Andersson score on the power play

The two goals for the Reign last night came on the power play. Tyler Madden recorded his 20th goal late in the first period to tie the game at one on the Reign’s first power play attempt. Just as Rempal loves playing against the Reign, Madden loves playing against the Silver Knights. The power-play goal was Madden’s 5th goal against the Silver Knights in seven games this season.

Lias Andersson recorded his 30th goal of the year on the Reign’s second power play attempt. The goal gave the Reign a 2-1 lead and was Andersson’s 14th power-play goal of the year which now leads the Reign. Through a year of ups and downs, Andersson has been one of the bright spots offensively for the Reign this year.
