New York Rangers’ announce Filip Chytil will be out for the rest of the season
James Carey Lauder-USA TODAY Sports

The New York Rangers have announced that Filip Chytil will be out of commission for the remainder of the season. Chytil sustained a concussion early in the season and was set to return to the lineup when he suffered a setback which will cost him the season.

The team issued a statement regarding this unfortunate setback:

“Following a thorough evaluation of Filip Chytil after his recent setback from an upper-body injury, it has been confirmed that he will be out for the remainder of the season. The organisation’s top priority throughout the process has been Filip’s health and we will continue to fully support him in his recovery with an aim to return for the 2024-25 season.”

During the Rangers’ morning skate this past Friday, which Chytil was able to attend, he suffered an injury of some sort and went down to the ice and stayed there for at least five minutes. According to Daily Faceoff’s Jonny Lazarus, Chytil wasn’t able to put any weight on his left leg as he was helped off the ice by teammates Zac Jones and Jake Leschyshyn.

Chytil played only 10 games this season for the Rangers, scoring six assists. He is in the first year of the four-year contract he signed with New York that pays him $4.437 million annually. The 24-year-old center was originally selected by the Rangers 21st overall in the 2017 NHL Draft. He joined the big club on a full-time basis just two years after being drafted but took a few more years to find his stride in the NHL.

Last season was Chytil’s breakout year. He put up career-highs across the board with 22 goals and 45 points in 74 games, along with 30 penalty minutes and a strong +15 rating. This injury is a major setback for the Rangers and their hopes of having a long playoff run this year. The team currently sits in first place in the Metropolitan Division and are a team that could compete for the Stanley Cup this season.
