Mark Recchi to be inducted into Flyers Hall of Fame

The Philadelphia Flyers announced former forward and Hockey Hall of Famer Mark Recchi will be inducted into the Flyers Hall of Fame on Jan. 27, 2024.

Recchi played 22 seasons in the NHL, and 10 of those were spent with the Flyers. He donned the Orange and the Black in two stints between 1991-1995 and 1998-2004. In 602 games with the Flyers, Recchi totaled 627 points (232G, 395A) and had a plus-minus of +43. His highest-scoring season with the Flyers came during 1992-1993, where he scored a franchise single-season record 123 points (53G, 70A) in 84 games.

In the playoffs, Recchi skated in 65 games, scoring 39 points (19G, 20A) and had a plus-minus of -1. Recchi is the ninth-highest-ranked scorer in Flyers history.

Trade History

Recchi was traded to the Flyers twice and traded away once.

First, Recchi was acquired by the Flyers during the 1992 season. The deal with the Pittsburgh Penguins consisted of Recchi, Brian Benning, and a 1992 first-round pick heading to the Flyers in exchange for Kjell Samuelsson, Rick Tocchet, Ken Wreggert, and a 1993 conditional third-round pick.

Next, Recchi was traded by the Flyers to the Montreal Canadiens in 1995. The Flyers sent Recchi and a 1995 third-round pick to the Canadiens in exchange for Eric Desjardins, Gilbert Dionne, and John LeClair.

Finally, Recchi returned to the Flyers for his final stint in 1999. This time in exchange for Dainuis Zubrus and draft picks.

Hall of Fame Career

To reward a mightily successful and impressive career, Recchi was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 2017, Through 22 seasons, he totaled 1,533 points (577G, 956A) in 1,652 games. While spending time with the Flyers, Penguins, Canadiens, Carolina Hurricanes, Atlanta Thrashers, Tampa Bay Lightning, and Boston Bruins, Recchi won five Stanley Cups. He three as a player, starting with the Penguins in 1991, then the Hurricanes in 2006, and lastly the Bruins in 2011. A member of the Penguins’ front office, he hoisted the cup twice in 2016 and 2017.

“This is a tremendous honor and one I was not expecting to get the call for,” said Recchi in a release by the organization. “My time in Philadelphia meant a lot, still means a lot, to me and I am very thankful to be the next inductee into the Flyers Hall of Fame.”

With his addition, Recchi will become the 28th player inducted into the Flyers Hall of Fame. The latest inductions came in 2021 when Paul Holmgren and Rick Tocchet were added.

Although Recchi was unsuccessful in bringing a third Stanley Cup to Broad Street, his career deserves the honor with the other all-time greats who wore the Flyers sweater.
