Mark Recchi Hired as Blue Jackets Assistant Coach

When the Philadelphia Flyers open the regular season at Columbus next month, there will be a familiar face on the bench.

The Blue Jackets hired former Flyers forward Mark Recchi as an assistant coach who will work with forwards and coordinate the power play, according to The Columbus Dispatch.

Recchi, 55, will work under a two-year contract.

Recchi will be inducted in the Flyers Hall of Fame on Jan. 27. His selection into the Hall was announced earlier this month.

Mike Babcock’s resignation earlier this month opened a coaching spot on the new Blue Jackets coach Pascal Vincent’s staff. 

Recchi played 10 of his 22 seasons with the Philadelphia Flyers. He scored 627 points (232 goals, 395 assists) in 602 games with the Flyers. Recchi holds the Flyers’ single-season record for points with 123 in 1992-93. He scored 53 goals and 70 assists in breaking Bobby Clarke’s record of 119 set in 1975-76.

“Mark Recchi has been part of the National Hockey League for over three decades and brings an incredible amount of experience to our staff,” Vincent said in a statement. “He is a Hall of Fame player who won three Stanley Cup championships, which combined with his coaching experience will make him a great resource for our players.”

Recchi was an assistant coach with the Penguins from 2017-20, and with the Devils from 2020-22.
