Leafs give Kyle Clifford and Carl Dahlstrom contract extensions
NHL: Toronto Maple Leafs at San Jose Sharks ? Stan Szeto-USA TODAY Sports

Less than 24 hours after an impressive win over the Kraken, the Leafs took care of business by signing two depth pieces to new deals for the immediate future.

Kyle Clifford’s two-year contract carries an AAV of $762K through the 2023-24 campaign, while Carl Dahlstrom has a two-way deal for next season at the league minimum of $750K. These two signings help solidify the depth both at forward and defence and cross off two pending free agents for the summer.

Clifford is in his second stint with the Leafs after originally arriving in the trade that brought in Jack Campbell. The 31-year-old has since split time between the Leafs are Marlies, registering two assists in 10 NHL games and three goals in eight AHL games.

Meanwhile, Dahlstrom has spent the majority of the season in the AHL save for a one-game stint with the top club (in which he played limited minutes against the Islanders in January). In 36 games played, the defenceman has recorded 13 assists.

While today’s signings take care of maintaining the depth for the next two seasons, Kyle Dubas still has plenty of work to do as the March 21st trade deadline approaches.
