Kraken’s Brian Dumoulin suffers lower-body injury vs. Devils, will not return

The incident occurred in the first period when Dumoulin, 32, reached for a loose puck in his own end and was hit by Devils’ forward Timo Meier. Dumoulin struggled to get up but left the ice on his own, heading straight down the tunnel to the locker room.

Through 50 games with the Kraken this season, Dumoulin has four goals and seven assists for 11 points. This campaign is his first with Seattle after 11 seasons with the Pittsburgh Penguins organization, 10 of which were in the NHL.

In 596 career NHL games, Dumoulin has 23 goals and 127 assists for 150 points. He reached career highs in assists and points last season, scoring 24 assists and 25 points through a full 82-game season. He signed a two-year, $6.3 million contract with the Kraken in the offseason.

Going into Monday night, Seattle was 21-20-10 with 52 points through 51 games, sixth in the Pacific Division. They’re 3-6-1 in their last 10 and have lost two straight. Before Monday’s game, the Kraken were six points out of one of the Western Conference’s Wild Card spots.

After the game against the Devils, Seattle heads to Long Island to face the New York Islanders on Tuesday, then head up to Boston to face the Bruins on Thursday before flying home and hosting the Detroit Red Wings next Monday.
