Hurricanes sign Charles-Alexis Legault to a three-year, entry-level contract

Legault spent the 2023-24 season with the Quinnipiac Bobcats of the NCAA where he posted nine goals and 15 assists for 24 points in 39 games; he led all Bobcats defensemen in goals. The 6-foot-3, 214-pound blueliner registered a plus/minus rating of plus-36, which currently stands as the highest mark among all NCAA Division I skaters through the 2023-24 campaign.

The Laval, Quebec product recorded 11 goals and 22 assists for 33 points in 79 NCAA games over two seasons with Quinnipiac, helping the program win its first-ever National Championship in 2022-23.

“Charles-Alexis is a physical defenseman who uses his size well,” said Waddell. “He made great strides in his offensive game this season, and we think he’s ready to continue his development at the professional level.”

Prior to his NCAA tenure, Leagult spent time with the West Kelowna Warriors of the British Columbia Hockey League (BCHL) where he tallied six goals and 18 points in 36 games; he added 11 points in 11 BCHL Playoff contests. Legault was drafted No. 22 overall by Gatineau Olympiques in the 2019 QMJHL Entry Draft but opted to play for Quinnipiac.

The 20-year-old defenseman will join the Canes’ American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate for the 2024-25 season.
