Longtime National Hockey League forward Frans Nielsen announced his retirement on Tuesday after Team Denmark played its last game at the 2022 IIHF World Championship. Nielsen, 38, played his first 10 NHL seasons with the New York Islanders before spending his final five with the Detroit Red Wings. He initially indicated his intention to retire after the 2022 Worlds earlier this month. In 925 career regular-season NHL games, Nielsen scored 167 goals and 473 points. He racked up 124 of those points (48 goals, 76 assists) in 319 games with the Red Wings from 2016 to 2021. Nielsen represented Denmark on the international stage numerous times during his long career.
