Former Edmonton Oilers forward Devin Shore signs one-year deal with Seattle Kraken

Devin Shore has landed on his feet with the Seattle Kraken.

The former Edmonton Oilers forward, who played for the team between 2020 and 2023, signed a one-year deal worth $775,000, the Kraken announced Thursday.

Shore, 29, joins other ex-Oilers in Jordan Eberle, Adam Larsson, Justin Schultz and Kailer Yamamoto in the Emerald City.

Taken by the Dallas Stars in the 2nd round of the 2012 draft, the Kraken will mark Shore’s fourth NHL team he’ll play for in his eight-year career. He spent his first three and a half seasons in Dallas, before stints with the Anaheim Ducks and Columbus Blue Jackets led him to Edmonton.

Shore played most of his NHL games with the Stars scoring 29 goals and 82 points in 209 games, with his second most coming with the Oilers. In Edmonton, he scored 11 goals and 29 points in 134 games over the past three seasons.

His strength from a big-picture perspective was his ability to be a glue guy for the team. You could see, even from afar, that Oilers played loved to have him around even as a 13th forward.

On the ice, the Oilers won’t miss Shore much. He was, at best, the 12th-best forward during his tenure in Edmonton and more often than not found himself in the press box.

Players like Shore have their role, and he knew his well. It’s part of the reason the Oilers kept him around as long as he did.
