Flyers-Hurricanes game Tuesday postponed due to COVID-19

At 24-7-2, the Carolina Hurricanes could've had a chance to jump into first place in the NHL's Eastern Conference on Tuesday. However, their scheduled contest against the Philadelphia Flyers has been postponed.

The Florida Panthers (23-7-5) and Tampa Bay Lightning (23-9-5) are both tied atop the conference with 51 points, while the Hurricanes and New York Rangers (23-10-4) are just behind with 50 points. The Flyers (13-15-7) are tied with the Columbus Blue Jackets (16-16-1) and New Jersey Devils (14-17-5) at 33 points for the fourth-worst record in the East.

Under head coach Rod Brind'Amour, the Hurricanes have made the playoffs in each of the last three seasons -- after missing the postseason the previous 10 years -- but haven't advanced past the Conference Finals. The Flyers are trying to avoid missing the playoffs in back-to-back seasons for the first time since 1994.

The Hurricanes are next scheduled to host the Blue Jackets at 7:00 p.m. ET on Thursday. The Flyers are slated to face the Boston Bruins on the road at 7:00 p.m. ET on Thursday as well.
