Five NHL prop plays for Monday night

The new week in the NHL brings with it enticing prop targets throughout the ice. There's value to be found for both shot and point props tonight. Here's five looks to consider for Monday night in hockey.

Patrik Laine over 3.5 SOG (-108 FD)

Columbus continues to get banged up, as Boone Jenner joins the injured list after surgery on his thumb. That leaves the burden of offensive production on the shoulders of Patrik Laine more than ever.

Last year, Jenner missed 16 games, and Laine averaged 3.31 shots per game, compared to 2.95 per game with Jenner in the lineup.

Now, 3.31 is not four, as we'll need tonight, but I think that helps to highlight the exact situation I'm expecting tonight: more volume from Laine.

How much more can we take? He's already averaging 8.2 attempts per game over his last five and 7.8 per game at home this season.

Laine has 4+ shots in five of his last eight and Dallas is a good shot target when skating on the road, allowing 34.6 shots per game. At this price, I have to load up on the most likely player to get shots off from Columbus.

Laine had six shots when he faced the Stars last year.

Evgeny Kuznetsov & Brad Marchand 1+ point each (+124 FD)

There's a lot of intriguing spots for goals tonight, and two teams I like in particular are Washington and Boston.

The Caps are averaging 3.1 goals per game at home and Detroit is allowing 3.5 per game on the road. What makes Washington a team I want to target is the power play, as Washington's PP rate has been rising over the last 10 while the Red Wings have been having difficulty slowing down opposing power-play attacks.

Kuznetsov has a point in seven of his last eight games and has 10 points in his last nine at home. He has a point in nine straight against Detroit.

We'll pair him with Brad Marchand, who has a point in two straight, both on the power play. I very much believe Boston nets a power-play goal or two against Florida tonight, and if Marchand wants to record this point there, fine by me.

At home, Marchand has a point in 11 of 13, with 17 total in TD Garden. He has 13 points in his last ten against the Panthers.

Zach Hyman over 3.5 SOG (-105 MGM)

There's no shortage of options in this game for points, goals and shot props. I'd expect plenty of action, but it's Zach Hyman who brings us the most reasonable price.

Hyman has gone for 4+ SOG in nine of his last 12 games, three of four on the road, and has enjoyed seeing the Predators of late.

In two meetings this season, Hyman has piled up 13 SOG, and he's gone over 3.5 shots in four of his last five against Nashville.

Cole Caufield over 3.5 SOG (-110 MGM)

What I love about Cole Caufield is how inconsistent he's been. That may sound counter-intituitive to hitting his prop, but his up and down tendencies have allowed us to grab him at -110 against Arizona, a wonderful gift.

The Coyotes are allowing 39.5 shots per game at home this season, the highest mark in the league, and they've been one of the most heavily penalized teams around.

Caufield easily leads Montreal in power-play shots and should find his chances tonight. He's gone for four shots in three of his last five games, and he had four shots against Arizona when they faced off in October.

Valeri Nichushkin & Brayden Schenn 1+ point (+154 FD)

Ilya Sorokin has struggled in net lately for the Islanders, allowing 13 goals in his past three starts. I like the Avs to notch at least three goals tonight, and my best bet to chip in to the fun is Valeri Nichushkin. Nichuskin has been taking on more of the offensive work for Colorado of late, and they need him to.

He has four points in his last three games to go along with 11 SOG. He still has not scored since returning from injury, and if Sorokin continues to have issues in the crease, tonight could be the night.

Brayden Schenn seems like a solid parlay option against a Vancouver team allowing 3.9 goals per game at home this year. Schenn has a point in six of his last seven, four straight road games and has a point in seven of his last eight against Vancouver.
