Ducks lose new star 4-6 weeks
Alex Killorn Morgan Tencza-USA TODAY Sports

The Anaheim Ducks announced Saturday that forward Alex Killorn will be out of the lineup for 4-6 weeks after suffering a fractured finger in a preseason game Wednesday against the San Jose Sharks.

Killorn, 34, was an unrestricted free agent signee by the Ducks after the conclusion of a seven-year contract with a $4.45 million cap hit he signed with the Tampa Bay Lightning. General manager Pat Verbeek signed Killorn to a four-year, $6.25 million contract.

Killorn is coming off his best season with the Lighting in 2022-23, with career-highs in goals with 27, assists with 37 and points with 64 in 82 regular-season games. He also had three goals, two assists and five points in six playoff games as the Lightning lost in the first round for the first time since 2019 at the hands of the Toronto Maple Leafs. Killorn spent 12 seasons with the Lightning, winning back-to-back Stanley Cups in 2019-20 and 2020-21. He appeared in 805 games with the franchise, collecting 466 points while adding 77 points in 140 Stanley Cup Playoff appearances.

The Halifax, Nova Scotia, product was originally drafted by the Lightning in the third round of the 2007 NHL Draft. He spent four years at Harvard University in the NCAA, where he totaled 53 goals and 56 assists for 109 points in 130 regular-season games. In 2011-12, Killorn was named to the NCA East All-American Team, NCAA ECAC All-Tournament Team, NCAA ECAC First All-Star Team and NCAA All-Ivy League First Team. That same season, he turned pro and made his American Hockey League debut with the Norfolk Admirals, where he tallied 12 points in 17 AHL Playoff contests and helped the Admirals capture the Calder Cup.
