Coyotes defenseman Matt Dumba leaves game with upper-body injury

Dumba’s injury came at a particularly inopportune time for the Coyotes, who announced earlier on Monday that they will be without veteran defender Troy Stecher for the next four to six weeks due to a lower-body injury.

Entering Monday’s game, Dumba had collected two goals and five points while averaging 20:22 of ice time in 42 games with the Coyotes to begin the 2023–24 season.

The Coyotes originally signed Dumba to a one-year, $3.9 million contract back on August 6, 2023. Dumba joined the Coyotes as an unrestricted free agent from the Minnesota Wild, with whom he spent the first 10 seasons of his NHL career.

The Wild drafted Dumba in the first round (No. 7 overall) of the 2012 NHL Draft. The 6′ right-handed defenseman made his NHL debut with the Wild in the 2011–12 season.

Through 642 career games with Minnesota and Arizona, Dumba has collected 81 goals and 241 points. He’s added five goals and 15 points in 49 playoff contests.

The Coyotes defeated the Penguins by a 5–2 score on Monday night, marking their first regulation victory over Pittsburgh in their last 15 meetings. The Penguins were 13-0-1 in their previous 14 games against Arizona entering Monday’s action.
