Corey Crawford 'taking an indefinite leave of absence' from Devils

New Jersey Devils goaltender Corey Crawford will be taking an indefinite leave of absence from the club due to personal reasons, the team announced Friday.

Crawford missed his fifth consecutive day of training camp on Friday. The Devils previously stated the goaltender missed time because he was taking maintenance days.

There is no timeline for Crawford's return, and the Devils will have to prepare to begin the season without him. New Jersey will likely rely on Mackenzie Blackwood and one of Gilles Senn or Evan Cormier.

Crawford signed a two-year, $7.8 million deal with the Devils this offseason after spending 13 years with the Chicago Blackhawks, with whom he won two Stanley Cups.

The Devils are slated to open the season against the Boston Bruins on Jan. 14.
