Canadiens Players Clear, 29 Names Added to NHL Waiver List
Bob Frid-USA TODAY Sports

Both players placed on waivers by the Montreal Canadiens yesterday went unclaimed, which means Philippe Maillet and Lias Andersson will report to their AHL affiliate, the Laval Rocket.

Several other NHL players were placed on the waiver wire Sunday, which resulted in two claims. The Pittsburgh Penguins claimed centre Jansen Harkins from the Winnipeg Jets, and the Nashville Predators claimed left wing Samuel Fagemo from the Los Angeles Kings,

NHL Players On Waivers (October 2)

Yet another large group of players were placed on waivers Monday, though no current member of the Montreal Canadiens appeared on the waiver list.

In total, 30 players were added to the waiver wire, including former Habs defencemen Victor Mete (Philadelphia Flyers) and Corey Schueneman (Colorado Avalanche).

There are no particularly notable players available, at least compared to when 2019 first-round pick Lassi Thomson was placed on waivers by the Senators.

Jan Jenik (Arizona Coyotes) and Rasmus Asplund (Florida Panthers) may garner some interest throughout the league but don’t expect the Canadiens to make any claims when evaluating the current crop of waiver-bound players.

NHL CBA Waiver-Wire Priority List Refresher

For now, the off-season priority list is locked in and will give teams that finished lower in the standings last year the first opportunity to claim a player that is placed on waivers.

For example, the Montreal Canadiens finished 28th last year, therefore they are the team with the fifth highest priority on the NHL’s waiver wire list. Teams have 24 hours to make a claim.

The off-season list will remain in place until November 1, when it will switch from using last season’s standings to this year’s standings to determine priority.

Simply put, the Canadiens will maintain the fifth-best position on the waiver wire priority list for at least a month. The Anaheim Ducks will maintain the No.1 spot on the list until November 1, as well, despite claiming Lassi Thomson from the Senators.
