Canadian whitewashed for the third time this season
Dan Hamilton-USA TODAY Sports

After a fine victory over the Philadelphia Flyers, the Canadiens were aiming for a fourth straight win tonight against the Carolina Hurricanes.

Samuel Montembeault was back in net for the occasion.

Here’s the rest of the lineup:

And the visitors’:

As you can see, Jesperi Kotkaniemi played on the fourth line.

In the first period, no goals were scored, but the action began in the next period.

The Canadiens were awarded a power play, but it was the visitors who took advantage.

Jordan Staal got in front of Monty alone and beat him.

Another Mike Matheson mistake on the power play.

It’s not the first time we’ve seen this one.

Early in the third, despite a good fight by the home team, Carolina doubled their lead.

Sebastian Aho took advantage of a gaping cage to score his 33rd of the season.

The Canes then played some extremely tight hockey. The Montreal attack had little or no chance of quality.

Final score: 3-0 Hurricanes, who added a goal in an empty net.

Martin St-Louis’ team will be back in action on Tuesday, when they welcome the Florida Panthers to the Bell Centre.

Extension

– Boom.

– That was close.

– Not a stat you want to be #1.
