Calgary Flames regional TV broadcasts will be on Sportsnet through 2034-35
Sergei Belski-USA TODAY Sports

If you want to catch a Calgary Flames game on television for the next few seasons, odds are it’ll be on a Sportsnet channel. On Friday the Flames and Sportsnet jointly announced that the regional TV rights deal has been extended for another 11 seasons, through the 2034-35 season.

Sportsnet has carried Flames regional broadcasts since its inception in 1998-99. This past season, 58 Flames games were broadcast regionally on Sportsnet West, Sportsnet Flames, Sportsnet 360 or Sportsnet One, typically with Rick Ball on play-by-play, Kelly Hrudey or Greg Millen on colour commentary, and Ryan Leslie as host. The remainder of the games were broadcast nationally on Sportsnet properties.

While the regional/national breakdown will probably be pretty similar for Flames fans in 2024-25, the national broadcast picture could be a little bit more complex. While all regional games will be on Sportsnet, on Monday it was announced that Amazon Prime will be carrying the Monday national games formerly carried by Sportsnet – Sportsnet will retain the rights to the Wednesday and Saturday national games. There are two seasons remaining on Sportsnet’s mammoth $5.2 billion 12-year national rights deal that it signed with the NHL back in Nov. 2013.

To catch every Flames game on television in 2024-25, fans will likely need to subscribe to the Sportsnet cable package… and Amazon Prime. While juggling multiple cable or streaming subscriptions may seem less than ideal, it’s a far cry from the olden days when a fairly significant amount of Flames games simply weren’t available on a television broadcast at all. Relative to the history of the franchise, having all 82 games available on TV is a pretty recent phenomenon.
