Calgary Flames open at 33-to-1 odds to win the 2024 Stanley Cup
? Sergei Belski-USA TODAY Sports

The Vegas Golden Knights have been crowned the Stanley Cup champions for the 2022-23 season! As the dust settles, the various odds-makers and betting sites have compiled their futures odds for the 2023-24 season – including odds to win the Stanley Cup.

Over at Betway, the Calgary Flames are valued at 33-to-1 odds to win the Stanley Cup.

The Flames’ odds tie them with Buffalo for 14th-best odds league-wide. The current odds favourites are the Edmonton Oilers at 8-to-1 odds. The longest underdogs are the Anaheim Ducks at 200-to-1.

(At 33-to-1, a winning bet would pay out $33 for every dollar that was bet.)

Here’s how Calgary stacks up within the Pacific Division:

  • Edmonton – 8-to-1
  • Vegas – 11-to-1
  • Los Angeles – 20-to-1
  • Calgary – 33-to-1
  • Seattle – 35-to-1
  • Vancouver – 60-to1
  • San Jose – 150-to-1
  • Anaheim – 200-to-1

The Flames had a record of 38-27-17 in 2022-23. They missed the Stanley Cup playoffs by just three points (factoring in tiebreakers), and then watched as the Florida Panthers, who finished with fewer points than they did, reached the Stanley Cup Final. Playoff hockey can be weird, friends.

Ultimately, the Flames finished 16th league-wide, so having the 14th or 15th-best odds for the Stanley Cup prior to any major off-season moves feels pretty close to where it should be. Depending on what kind of moves they make, there could be some decent betting value there. That said, if some of their pending 2024 free agents decide they don’t want to extend and Craig Conroy has to break up the core group a bit, it still might be a bit of an iffy bet.

Buyer beware, and all that.
