Bruins winger Brad Marchand plans to be ready for season opener

Boston Bruins winger Brad Marchand opened training camp on Monday sporting a red, non-contact jersey after undergoing hernia repair surgery during the offseason.

Following Monday's practice, Marchand told reporters that he's planning to be ready for the team's season opener against the New Jersey Devils on Jan. 14.

Marchand went under the knife on Sept. 14 and was given a four-month recovery timeline. Players sometimes have setbacks, though it appears the 32-year-old is on track and has taken his recovery very seriously.

Marchand was one of Boston's best players last season, tallying 87 points (28 goals, 59 assists) in 70 regular-season games. It'll be important for him to get back on the ice as soon as possible with David Pastrnak sidelined after undergoing a hip procedure during the offseason.
