Blues fourth-string goaltender Charlie Lindgren could start next three games

As noted by The Associated Press (h/t ESPN), the St. Louis Blues improved to 13-8-4 on the season via Tuesday's overtime win over the Florida Panthers that included fourth-string goaltender Charlie Lindgren securing the victory after Ville Husso suffered a lower-body injury during the contest.

Lindgren may want to get comfortable between the pipes.

Per Lou Koraco of the NHL's website, Lindgren could start for the Blues' next three games with Husso sidelined. Jordan Binnington remains in the COVID-19 protocol, and Joel Hofer cannot be called up from the Springfield Thunderbirds of the American Hockey League because of league salary-cap rules.

Lindgren hasn't made an NHL start since March 2020 and before the league temporarily shut down due to the coronavirus pandemic. He recorded three saves following Husso's setback in the win against the Panthers.

"Yeah, it's crazy," Lindgren said of his situation. "To be honest with you, I really have no idea what's going on with the cap and all that. I just hear what the guys are saying, but at the end of the day, I'm here, my job's to play as hard and as well as I can for the Blues, and that's all I can really focus on.

"I was definitely feeling really good [in Springfield]. We've got an excellent hockey team, great coaching staff, and bottom line, we're having a lot of fun playing with each other, and I got a few other Birds up here, and just a great group of guys. We're having a ton of fun, so I was feeling good personally and definitely want to carry that momentum up here."

Journeyman Jon Gillies is set to serve as Lindgren's backup beginning with Thursday's matchup against the 13-10-3 Detroit Red Wings.

Binnington, meanwhile, may be eligible to resume skating on Sunday.
