As Daily Faceoff insider Frank Seravalli has reported, the Columbus Blue Jackets will be adding Hall of Famer Mark Recchi to their coaching staff. Recchi will assume the assistant coach duties.

Pascal Vincent initially held the assistant coaching position, but following the departure of former head coach Mike Babcock, Vincent was promoted to bench boss.

As a player, Recchi recorded 1,533 career points in 1,652 NHL regular season games with the Philadelphia Flyers, Pittsburgh Penguins, Montreal Canadiens, Carolina Hurricanes, Atlanta Thrashers, Tampa Bay Lightning and Boston Bruins. He captured three Stanley Cups as a player with the Penguins, Hurricanes and Bruins. Recchi was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 2017.

In 2012-13, Recchi made his first leap into staffing operations in the NHL when he joined the Dallas Stars as a Senior Advisor; he was there until 2014. He then joined Pittsburgh as a development coach during the 2014-15 campaign and stayed with the club until 2019-20 while even getting a promotion to assistant coach in 2017. As a member of the Penguins staff, he captured back-to-back Stanley Cups with the club in 2015-16 and 2016-17. Following his tenure with the Penguins, Recchi then accepted an assistant coaching position with the New Jersey Devils in 2020 and held the position until 2022.

In other business ventures, Recchi is the co-owner of his hometown major junior hockey club, the Kamloops Blazers of the Western Hockey League, alongside Stars owner Tom Gaglardi and former NHL All-Stars Shane Doan, Jarome Iginla and Darryl Sydor.

The Blue Jackets play their next preseason game on Tuesday against the St. Louis Blues. They open their season on Oct. 12 against the Philadelphia Flyers.
