Blackhawks Shut Down Cole Guttman
Jamie Sabau-USA TODAY Sports

The Blackhawks forward will miss the remainder of the season due to a shoulder injury.

When the Chicago Blackhawks took the ice for practice on Monday, rookie forward Cole Guttman was missing from the action. Just a couple of hours later, his fate for the rest of the season was made clear.

Following practice, Blackhawks head coach Luke Richardson informed the media that Guttman will miss the remainder of the 2022-23 season due to a shoulder injury that was suffered back in November. According to Richardson, Guttman had continued playing through the injury up until this past Saturday.

The rookie forward ends his season at an unfortunate time. Currently riding a three-game point streak, Guttman's minutes have steadily climbed throughout the month. On Friday night, Guttman saw 17:55 of ice time, a season-high for the 23-year-old who just broke into the NHL a little under one month ago. He was considered a reason to watch this struggling Blackhawks team down the stretch.

Now shut down for the season, Guttman will undergo a surgical procedure to repair the injury. According to NBC Sports Blackhawks Insider Charlie Roumeliotis, he is on his way to Los Angeles right now to have the procedure done. Guttman is expected to be ready for the start of training camp next season.
