Blackhawks Recall Isaak Phillips in Wake of Alex Vlasic's Injury
Kamil Krzaczynski-USA TODAY Sports

The Chicago Blackhawks made a seemingly preemptive roster move Sunday by recalling Issak Phillips from the Rockford IceHogs of the AHL. This transaction comes in the wake of Alex Vlasic suffering an apparent upper-body injury on Friday against the Vegas Golden Knights.

Vlasic exited early from that game after taking a blindside hit from Vegas forward Brett Howen in the second period. The team has not provided an update on Vlasic's status since the incident, but it seems likely the young blueliner will miss some time.

As for Phillips, the 22-year-old gets the call to the NHL after starting the season with the IceHogs. In five games with Rockford, Phillips has one goal and two assists. The Ontario native has appeared in 20 NHL games to date, posting one goal and four assists while averaging 14:50 of ice time.

The Blackhawks will be back in action Monday when they visit the Arizona Coyotes. Puck drop is at 9 PM CT and the game will air on NBC Sports Chicago+.
