The Chicago Blackhawks' blue line just got a bit more interesting. Ahead of Saturday's preseason finale, the team recalled defenseman Isaak Phillips from the Rockford IceHogs.
Phillips seemed destined to start the season in the AHL after the Blackhawks initially assigned him to Rockford on Oct. 4. However, various injuries on the blue line now give Phillips another shot at making the Blackhawks' opening night roster.
The 21-year-old joins Alec Regula, Filip Roos, and Alex Vlasic in a group of young defensemen vying to make the NHL club out of camp. Roos and Vlasic both experienced hiccups in Thursday's exhibition game at Minnesota. Could those concerns be enough to open the door for Isaak Phillips?
Only time will tell, but that time is dwindling down. The Chicago Blackhawks only have one preseason contest remaining. Keep a close eye on the blue line when the Hawks visit the St. Louis Blues Saturday.
